FRUCTUS as host of Europom® 2025 celebrates its 40th anniversary. Europom® 2025 will take place on 18 and 19 October in the old market hall in Basel, Switzerland in the frame of Expo Fruits Basel. More than 10 international delegations are invited to present their typical fruit species and varieties, the culinary value of those varieties as well as their organisations and activities.
The motto of this year's Europom® is: Enjoy fruit diversity. In addition to the visual experience, Europom® will also be dedicated to the enjoyment of fruit on the palate. The infrastructure of the old market hall is particularly suitable for this.
The delegations and their stands are therefore being asked this year to emphasise enjoyment, with a variety of products and tasting opportunities.
FRUCTUS will be presenting around 500 apple and pear varieties in the main hall of the old market hall on tables arranged in a circle with interspersed opportunities for fruit tasting. Opportunities for fruit tasting will be integrated throughout the exhibition.
In addition, FRUCTUS will offer information, documents, and items for sale, including books on pomology, as well as a pomological identification service. Fruit samples brought by the public will be identified by experts whenever possible. There will also be booths from partner organizations.
The exhibitions are complemented by a programme of lectures on topics relating to the diversity of fruit varieties, their description, conservation, and use.
The artist Brigitte Hofherr will be exhibiting a selection of her fruit paintings and offering workshops, one for children and one for adults. Visit her website: www.brigitte-hofherr.de.
The city is located in the far north-west of Switzerland and forms a border triangle with France and Germany. The High Rhine flows into the Upper Rhine at the Rhine bend in Basel. The Rhine divides Basel into large and small Basel.
Basel is home to many financial services, chemical and pharmaceutical companies. Basel has a rich history dating back to the 5th century BC with the settlement of the Celts. Basel is home to the oldest university in Switzerland and was the place of work of many well-known personalities such as Erasmus of Rotterdam, Paracelsus, Hans Holbein and Friedrich Nietzsche. The city is known for its rich cultural offerings, such as its many museums, including the Kunstmuseum Basel and the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen.
The town hall, built in 1504, and the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral are the city's two best-known landmarks.
Today, the city is also known for its modern architecture, including several important 20th century buildings designed by architects such as Herzog & de Meuron, Botta, and Christ & Gantenbein.
Basel's large market hall for fruit and vegetables, opened in 1929 and once the third largest dome in the world, is now an architectural highlight with culinary offerings and is a listed building. The market hall ceased trading in 2004. Since 2013, a growing community has been committed to the Basel market hall.
The current sponsor is Markthallen AG. The founders of Markthallen AG have contributed with a great deal of commitment and passion to the fact that it exists and thrives in its current form. Edith Mayron AG has owned the market hall since 2016. Edith Mayron AG is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Edith Mayron Foundation. The aim of this foundation is to permanently withdraw land or property from speculation and to put it to socially acceptable use.
