International Fruit Exhibition Europom

Since 1989, the NBS organizes under the name Europom an international fruit exhibition. It was preceded by a four-year national exhibition, a kind of happening which took place in the buildings of Hasselt University, Campus Diepenbeek. The subject then rang "European fruits and recipes. From the beginning, six countries were involved, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Great-Brittani, the Netherlands and Germany.

In 1990, the association "Les Pommes de Croqcqueurs"(France) organized in Savigny-le-Temple "Europomme '90. One of the co, the members referred to in the other countries.

The second manifestation Europom took place in 1993 in the "Landcommanderij Alden Biesen"in Bilzen, Belgium. Some numbers: there were 1350 issued races, 67 volunteers, three areas Expo, 9 000 people, including the six participants as mentioned above.

Also in 1993 EURO CROCQ'POMMES  took place in France in Selencourt, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Crocqueurs Pommes.

The alternate organization of a European exhibition constantly took shape, but at the same time caused the initial difficulties. In the beginning there was no problem as regards date and frequency as no candidate presented itself to take charge of an organization of this size. Let's be clear, the Exibition EUROPOM takes place without any subsidy whatsoever, only with own means of organizing the Exibition.

As associations organizers could only note the NBS for Belgium and les Croqueurs de Pommes for France. Gradually other partners have made proposals for organization while there were more and more demands for coordination, agreement on the frequency, timing, partners, etc.. The principle has always been one partner was responsible for the organization to which other partners would participate with their own national stand. Through this interaction these international exhibitions, which, as agreed with the NBS stood still under the name EUROPOM, grew slowly but surely in a European event value.

In 1998 there was another edition of CROCQ'POMMES in Ferté Bernard (FR) with the participation of some partners (NBS Others ...)

In 1999 the third edition of NBS EUROPOM - two weekends and an interlude during the week took place at the castle Coloma Sint-Pieters-Leeuw (Belgium). Partners / Participating countries: NPV (Netherlands), Pomologen Verein (Germany), The Apples Crocquers (France), Pomona (Italy), RHS (United Kingdom), Pro Specie Rara (Switzerland), Fructus (Switzerland), Nordic Gene Bank (Sweden).

On this occasion the first formal consultation was held as a result and had an agreement on mutual consultation among partners before setting the date (s) the organization of international exhibitions. Candidates failing the NBS coordinator was responsible for consultation by telephone contact to fix the dates of exhibitions EUROPOM for years to come. Namely: 2003 Crocquers Apples (France), 25th anniversary, NBS 2004 (Belgium), 2005 GPO Munich (Germany).

In 2003 Les Crocquers de Pommes re-organized  a new edition EURO CROCQ'POMMES in Troyes (F), on the occasion of their 25th anniversary.

The fourth EUROPOM exhibition was organized by the NBS in 2004 took place at the field of Old Reeds (Alden-Biesen) in Bilzen (B). Twelve associations or regions participating with a total of more than 2,000 varieties of fruit, two international symposia, 10,000 visitors, a lot of events guided extramural, in positive reactions and nothing but appreciation. In a word: complete success.

On this occasion an agreement in principle on EUROPOM was agreed between the partners. Practical arrangements were fixed in a protocol, including, inter alia name registration, websites, timelines, responsibility by country / region, ...

In 2005 the organization was supported - as agreed - by the GPO in Munich (Germany), and that the OECD nity and in collaboration with BUGA 2005.

On the latter occasion was arranged by a number of partners in a general meeting to make a step forward on mutual cooperation. It was then decided to create a European platform for our amateur associations (NGO) in which all stakeholders will be represented on equal basis.
